The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has identified ongoing concerns regarding fire safety in local authority and housing association buildings across the UK. A recent survey reveals that 1,820 buildings over 11 meters tall still have “life-critical” fire safety (LCFS) defects, with 27% lacking clear or complete plans for remediation. This represents a slight improvement from previous figures, but highlights significant challenges in ensuring safety standards. Landlords attribute delays in remediation to various factors such as ongoing cost negotiations with developers, prioritisation of higher-risk buildings, and the complexities of assessment processes conducted by consultants. Currently, work is underway for 29% of buildings with LCFS defects, while plans exist for a further 39%. Despite progress, only 6% of buildings have completed necessary works, down from 10% previously reported.
