Regulator of Social Housing has issued a Regulatory Notice after Sheffield City Council made a self-referral in November last year following failures to complete annual Gas Safety checks on over 800 homes.
In its report the Regulator said that the council had not complied with the Home Standard, a statutory requirement where providers must ensure the health and safety of tenants in their homes. The Regulator’s investigation found that hundreds of properties had not received their annual gas safety inspection, and that a significant number of the gas safety inspections were overdue by more than 12 months, with some dating back several years. The Regulator went on to say that the Sheffield Council was currently addressing the issue and has put in place a programme to reduce the number of overdue gas inspections, therefore would not take enforcement action at this stage.
